| Mike has thirty-five years of experience in human resources and strategic planning within the banking, retail, and brewing industries. His background includes working as an industrial psychologist for a national research institute, providing strategic planning in the retail industry, and wide experience as a human resources generalist in the banking industry. As a result, Mike has been involved in a wide variety of activities ranging from starting new banks in Africa, being part of a leadership team to transform the human resources function in a major South African bank, to leading the formation of the banking sector’s education and training structures mandated by Parliament.
Mike is experienced in all facets of human resources with a special interest in talent management and executive development.
He has worked in transforming the leadership cultures, creating high potential development programs, and participated in the design and management of executive consortia programs with global partners. In doing so, he has held executive positions and chaired the board of the South African banking sector’s training authority.
As the managing director of his own consultancy, Mike helps clients explore business strategies and management issues through international action learning projects, business simulations, business networking, and bespoke development programs. He also works with local business schools including GIBS and Henley.
As an advanced executive coach, Mike is well-versed in adaptive coaching and can draw on his knowledge of many different coaching tools and techniques. These include behavioural coaching, gestalt coaching, NLP, systemic Constellations and many others. He is currently a member of the GIBS panel of coaches and is listed on the Henley Register of Coaches. Mike is also a Korn Ferry contracted coach. He is particularly interested in leadership coaching, coaching high potentials, and team coaching.
Mike has an MA (cum laude) from Rhodes University and an MBL (cum laude) from UNISA, a CAIB from the Institute of Bankers, a post-graduate Certificate in Coaching (Henley) and is a certified NLP Practitioner. He is currently studying for an MSc in Coaching and Behavioural Change at Henley Business School in the UK. Mike is a member of Comensa and PsySSA. |
